MUET WRITING TASK 1

 Text: Teacher Rozanne

MUET Speaking paper consists of 2 parts, Task 1 and Task 1.

Task 1 is a bit 'easy' I would say compared to Task 2 as there are notes and points provided to guide students in answering their task.

Here are some elements in Task 1 Writing Question:

1. Notes: there are 4 main notes provided as a guide to students in answering their task. These notes are placed on the right side of the paper, indicated by 4 separate arrows.

2. Sender & receiver:

a) the sender's info is usually put in a box generally containing name, email address, and subject & also at sign off

b) the receiver's info is usually just a name mentioned at Salutation

That's about the elements that you'll find in MUET Writing Paper 800/4

Good luck!

MUET Speaking Tips

 Text: Teacher Rozanne

What's with the Speaking Test?

Honestly, it is actually more challenging. Yep! That's the truth.

Yet, remember that nothing is impossible should you strive for the best.

So, here are some tips that might help you overcome your nervousness about sitting for this paper:

1. Revise and practice on as many past sessions' speaking questions as possible.

2. Practice individually by recording your voice presenting for Part 1 for 2 minutes and ask your teacher to help check that (maybe you can send the recording through applications like WhatsApp or Telegram?)

3. Practice in your groups too (either groups of 3 or 4) and 'plan' strategies so that all of you can 'help' each other during group discussion in Part 2

4. Finally, remember that KNOWLEDGE is the key! So, keep yourself updated with the current issues across fields like Culture, Education, Money, Time management, Economics, and many more! The key is to keep tabs with current issues.

Good luck with your Speaking Test!

Writing is like drinking the right tea for your specific needs. *wink*

As simple as it looks, summary can be a complicated matter if you are not careful of its techniques.

One of it is:
- be extra careful not to include unnnecessary details in the writing.

How to be sure of that?

Well, read and reread the questions many times to ensure you get the correct understanding of them.

Until the next tip, happy writing! 😍

Essay Writing

Life is like a cup of coffee.

Salam all students.
What to add to make your writing more interesting?

Below are some expressions you can use in your writing.

However, bear in mind to use these expressions appropriately.
It means that, you should understand the meanings of the expressions before using them in your essay.
Do not simply put them where they are not needed at, okay?

1) We need a breath of fresh air.
2) The seeds of respect cultivated a long time ago remain lush.
3) Clear fluorescent lighting illuminates row after row of sturdy shelves.
4) In the middle of the store stands a huge wooden pillar reminiscent of the trunk of a great tree.
5) The carefree Malacca girl fresh out pf university in the big city found herself in unfamiliar territory.
6) I was an appalling student in university.
7) I am not clever, but I had my moments of cunning.

These are all taken from various articles in the Star Online.newspaper.

All the best in your writing!

Try to recall and jot down any occurences throughout your day.

Hi to all readers!

Have you written anything in your writing book today?
Haven't? Well, you better do so now!

What to write?

As one of the SPM examintation candidates next year, you should start with your writing before the school reopen on 3rd January next year!

You can start writing a Daily Journal. It's actually quite similar to your diary writing. Make it a habit to jot down anything that comes to your mind, on papers. Plus, add a few new vocabularies every day.

When to write?

Even you are free to write at any time you wosh, I suggest the time before you go to bed.

Why?

It is the time before you retire for the day and usually that will be your quiet time, so you usually are able to think more clearly. Plus, writing at the end of the day - of all the occurences  throughout the day - will help you boost your memory as well. Does it not sound interesting? Sure, it is, right?

So, wait no more, hit the bookstore, get yourself a notebook for your Journal Writing today!

Happy writing.

Journal Writing to go

Text: Rozanah Zakaria
Photo: Rozanah Zakaria

For SPM candidates out there, I believe you have finished your mid-term examination. You should now already putting your full energy to preparing for the real SPM exam.

The most important element in SPM papers (paper 1 and 2), is your writing skills. Writing carries about 74 percent of your total marks in both papers. Does it not seem important still to you? It sure does, right?

So, what do you do to write good essays? If you are an avid reader, this should not be a big problem to you, since you have the language in your head. You just need to ponder the details with the mechanics of writing to master the techniques to at par with SPM level requirement.

However, if you are still finding your ways to writing, you should start NOW with Journal Writing. What is it? Journal Writing is a way for you to 'polish' your skills in writing with correct structures.

How do you go about doing it?

Just take a small note book, take it wherever you go, write whatever you feel, at anytime of the day. But, the best time, according to my experience doing this during my study, is to pour everything inside the journal just before you go to slumberland. This way, you get two benefits. Number one: you help ease the 'burrden' in your mind  by expressing your feelings in writing or happenings during the whole day. Number two: you are sharpening your memory as you will try to remember in sequence the happenings for the whole day.

Isn't that good for you as a student? Sure it does, I believe.

So, grab a book, write!

Till we meet again. Bye!

Learning Language

Text: Rozanah Zakaria

Sangkar Ikan, Pulau Aman

Can someone please tell me, is there any other ways to learn language rathaer than reading and speaking in the language? Another thing is, if someone, in any circumstabces at all, loathe the language and not at all motivated or have not the slightest passion to get to know the said language, how on earth can one say that, this and that someone else, is not 'helping' him master the language?

Please someone enlighten me on this matter.

I am never fed up, nor I feel bored doing this so-called 'mundane' task of educating those who are ever willing to learn. It's a noble path I hav echosen to do for the rest of my life, no matter what my career title is called.

Last words,

please take note the fact that (at least I believe it is) a language is universal, doesn't exclusively belong to any tribes or people, rather it is a gift from God for mankind, so that we get to know and embrace each other in this temporary planet called the Earth.

Till we meet again.

Never stop learning, as the more you learn, the more you realise you have known only a little.

Wassalam.

Want to write well? Then, read, read and read! Reading any materials everyday without fail will equip you with all the mechanics of the language.

By reading, unconsciously, your mind is 'patterned' to automatically start thinking in that particular language, well, in this case, English!

So, what are you waiting for? Start reading and thinking in English, now!

Want to be good in English Language?
Then read a lot of english materials.
Be it a magazine, newspaper, comic or a novel.

Stick to your interest.
Go with the flow.

The more you read, the more you understand the language and all its mechanics.

Trust me, I've been 'living' with the language for more than 30 years.

How to make writing as a part of your life?

Text: Rozanah Zakaria
Photo: Rozanah Zakaria

My students in the midst of 'cracking the code' for writing class.

How to make yourself excellent in writing?

Do this, everyday!

Take your pen now, write a sentence of 6 words describing your situation or feeling today or whatever your are experiencing today.

Just write (for beginners, you can use dictionary to help you with more bombastic words), never stop more than five second to think, doing so, you will find your ideas flow smoothly.

For the start, mark your calendar to do this for the rest 40 days, then I assure you, writing will become a part of you.

This whole idea of writing a sentence a day I got from this blogspot (and I add some amendment, with some of my ideas) you can refer to the blogspot address below.

To whosoever writer of this blog, I pray that God bless you with the brilliant ideas that you shared. Hope you don't mind me sharing your brilliant ones here. Thank mister oneminutewriter.blogspot.my.

To all students out there, start writing today, for you will find another side of your life in doing this.

Wassalam.
